It's probably complaining about not being able to open
the DISPLAY ...
Try spawning the gui from a sub-shell ...
sudo /bin/csh -c "(setenv DISPLAY machine:0.0; gui)"
I've put this into a semi-generic (I say semi-generic
because my machine is "hard-coded") alias...
rmtXsudo sudo /bin/csh -c "(setenv DISPLAY
auu-70:0.0; !*)"
This should do the trick.
