[sudo-users] Sudo seems to run mail command and fails on read-only file system

Thanks Todd.

Someone has managed to work out the root password for the particular 
machine and physically logging in as root still causes the mail/abort 
issue, so I think it's a base login problem. Not the fault of sudo at all.
