[sudo-users] make error with sudo 1.8.3 on HPUX 11.23 itanium machine

I am getting the below error with make

element type
make[1]: *** [net_ifs.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/compile/sudo-1.8.3p1/plugins/sudoers'
make: *** [all] Error 2

the configure stage had gone fine without any issues.  I ma using the gnu
make 1.8.1 version and the gcc 4.0.2 version.

Would using a different gcc compiler help me out or is there any other
workaround for  this.
