Check the archives; I think the usual advice is to
run rvim.  But I'm not sure how safe that is.

There is also messages in the archive to come up
with a safe editing which doesn't edit as root at
all; it just copies back and forth to your own
privilege under sudo, and you edit the file as yourself.
