When you run sudo a ticket file in either /var/run/sudo or /tmp/.odus is created for you. Subsequent sudo invocations check the timestamp on the ticket when determining whether or not to prompt for a password. The ``timestamp_timeout'' variable controls the period, which defaults to 5 minutes. - todd
